PLASTIC AND OUR STREAMS,
RIVERS AND OCEANS
Did you know there is a horrific plastic “garbage patch” the size of the state of Texas in the Pacific Ocean? Plastic never biodegrades, it just becomes smaller and smaller pieces of plastic. Many marine animals eat jellyfish, and plastic bags resemble jellyfish. The animals ingest plastic bags or get tangled up in them, which inevitably kills them. If this appalling news makes you want to take action, you can start small by using reusable cloth bags when you shop, or by picking up plastic bags and other debris in your neighborhood or grocery store parking lot - or both. Or help clean up a river or stream. Remember, once any plastic gets into a creek or stream, it's on its way to the ocean.
